EU revises regulations on the use of two novel foods
On January 25, 2021, the European Union issued (EU) 2021/50 and (EU) 2021/51 Implementing Regulations to amend two novel foods, namely 2’-fucosyllactose/difucosyllactose mixture (2'-FL/DFL) and trans-resveratrol. The main contents of the revisions include:
(1) Extend the use of 2’-FL/DFL in milk-based drinks and similar products intended for young children at levels of 1.2 g/L in the final product ready for use, marketed as such or reconstituted as instructed by the manufacturer in the authorised uses;
(2) Change the conditions of use of the novel food trans-resveratrol to authorise its use in any form of food supplements at the previously authorised maximum level.
These Regulation shall enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
