Russia releases probiotic food safety and hygiene requirements and other standards
On June 3, 2021, the Russian Federal Bureau of Technical Regulations and Metrology issued Decree No. 501 and 503, promulgating the new standard "Specifications for Boneless Semi-finished Meat for Children's Food" (GOSTR54754-2021), "Probiotics Food Safety and Hygiene Requirements" (GOSTR59549-2021).
GOSTR54754-2021 applies to the quality and safety requirements for boneless semi-finished meat pieces made from beef, horse meat, pork, mutton, and venison used in children’s food. The standard will take effect on March 1, 2022;
GOSTR59549-2021 applies to foods containing probiotics. This standard specifies its labeling requirements to inform consumers that foods contain probiotics and to ensure consumers' right to know. This standard will take effect on September 1, 2021.
