According to a report by the Industrial Knowledge Center of the Russian Animal and Plant Inspection and Quarantine Service, China purchased 3,700 tons of Russian beef in the first quarter, which is 20 times as much as a year ago.


China's share of Russia's total beef exports exceeds 55%. Russia exported a total of 6,500 tons abroad from January to March, almost twice and a half of 2020. In terms of beef exports to China, Russia has surpassed Australia, Argentina and Brazil. In China, China’s own pork production has declined due to African swine fever. The market opened the door to foreign producers. However, In Australia, due to the COVID-19 epidemic, 7 meat factories stopped production and exports were suspended to restore livestock numbers. Argentina cut supply by 50% to control domestic prices. As early as 2017 in Brazil, there were dozens of agricultural companies closed in compliance with sanitary conditions. Moreover, a biological growth hormone and Salmonella were discovered in some Brazilian products. As a result, Russian beef appeared on the Chinese table.
