On January 5, 2022, the Polish Government Gazette website published Announcement No. 24 amending the Wine Act. The main contents are as follows:
(1) General rules. Including: matters related to the production of fermented alcoholic beverages, labels of fermented alcoholic beverages and their sales names, production of wine products, names of origin, and geographical indications;
(2) Terms and definitions. Definition of distilled spirits and spirits, etc.;
(3) Production and labelling requirements for fermented alcoholic beverages. Alcohol content and labeling requirements of various fermented wines;
(4) Registration of enterprises engaged in the production or bottling of wine products. The contents include: sampling frequency and method of product quality inspection, method of product quality test, treatment method of products that do not meet quality requirements, compliance of production facilities and equipment, special person responsible for quality control of alcoholic products, etc.;
(5) Requirements for wine labels. The wine producer's or company name, address, wine origin and serial number, grape grower's identification number, producer contact information, etc.; requirements for proof of wine year;
(6) Regulations on violation penalties. Production or bottling of wine products without registration, wine produced from grapes from unrecorded vineyards, etc.;
(7) Provisions for transitional periods. The wine trade is prepared for a 24-month transition period. The announcement will takes effect after 6 months from the date of publication.
