UK food exports to EU to decline in 2021
According to SeafoodMedia on January 11, the global exports of British salmon and whisky have begun to recover. The sales of these two commodities have increased by 21% compared with 2020, while other products such as beef, cheese and pork exports decreased by 18.4%, 13.2% and 5.7% respectively.
UK food and drink exports fell by £2.7bn in the first three quarters of 2021. This is mainly due to new trade barriers with the EU. In addition, the lingering impact of the Covid-19 pandemic caused sales to the EU to fall by £2.4bn, or 23.7%. .
UK food and beverages have performed positively in non-EU markets over the past year, with exports to mainland China up 22.1%, exports to Taiwan, China up 21.8%, exports to the UAE up 18.3%, Japan up 10.6%, and Singapore up 5.4%.
