South Korea will implement a 5-year cycle of precision inspections on imported food
On January 28, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of South Korea announced that MFDS will start to implement a "5-Year Cycle of Precision Inspection" on imported food and other foods on February 22 this year. In order to facilitate the understanding of importers and improve the stability of the system, the "Q&A Information on the Implementation of the 5-Year Cycle of Precision Inspection" has been released.
The products include foods, food additives, utensils, containers, packaging materials, health foods, and livestock products imported from overseas into Korea.
This Q&A document includes the calculation method of the 5-year cycle and the confirmation method of whether or not it is subject to a precision inspection, etc.
The 5-year cycle inspection system is a system introduced to strengthen the safety management of imported food, and a system for re-inspection of imported food that has been inspected or randomly sampled for 5 years.
