According to Bahraini Gulf Daily on April 25, The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism has issued decree No. 14 of 2022, banning the production, import or circulation of single-use plastic bags by thickness of less than 35 microns from September 19, 2022.  the minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Zayed bin Rashid Al Zayani stressed that the decision to ban single-use plastic bags less than 35 microns thick was made to protect the environment and reduce the risk of plastic waste.  The ban does not apply to single-use bags that are more than 35 microns thick, as well as those for medical use and for export.

Zayani said a survey by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism showed that all local factories intend to produce multi-purpose plastic bags with a thickness of more than 35 microns. 86% of these local plants will continue to produce plastic products exempt from the new regulations or alternatives to banned single-use bags.  Some neighbouring and developed countries have implemented similar regulations to limit the spread of plastic waste, which poses a huge threat to the environment and wildlife.

The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism will continue to take measures conducive to environmental protection, calling on all parties to cooperate and work together to protect environmental safety.
