Due to high market demand and export prices, Vietnam's Basa fish, shrimp and other major aquatic products have achieved impressive growth. In April 2022, Vietnam's fish exports amounted to about 263 million US dollars, raising the value of fish exports to 894 million US dollars in the first four months of this year, increased 89.4% year on year. According to the Vietnam Fisheries Processing and Export Association, the consumer market suffered setbacks in the past two years due to the impact of the epidemic, but now the market demand is recovering strongly, and demand is facing short supply. Export prices are rising due to inflation. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has also made global fishing supplies more unstable, especially for white-meat fish. Vietnamese fisheries companies have taken advantage of this opportunity, stepping up export efforts and securing contracts at prices much higher than in 2021.
Vietnam's exports of shrimp, fish and other key products in the U.S. market are rising up sharply from a year ago. In the first four months of this year, Vietnamese exports to the United States recorded a breakthrough growth of 128%.
By the end of April 2022, Vietnam's exports of aquatic products to China reached about $578 million, increased 94% year-on-year. Among them, fish inspection accounted for 53% of the total exports of aquatic products to this market.
In the domestic market, the price of raw fish in Chiu-lung River Delta region remained stable in April, and the price of black tiger shrimp also remained stable compared with last month. South American white prawn prices fell slightly due to reduced demand from factories.
