Vietnam revised/supplemented the Inspection and Quarantine Act for terrestrial animals and animal products

On 4 May 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam issued notice G/SPS/N/VNM/139, amending/supplementing the Inspection and Quarantine Act for terrestrial Animals and animal products.  The main contents include:

(1)The draft revised and supplemented the implementation guidelines for the inspection and quarantine of terrestrial animals and animal products;  

(2) Modification and supplement to point C of Article 1, Section II, Appendix XII of the Guidelines, mainly include: high-risk pathogen group, including foot-and-mouth disease, African swine fever, etc., in frozen/refrigerated/freshly processed buffalo meat, viscera, by-products and meat products;  Low-risk pathogens include salmonella in processed milk and dairy products.  

Frequent sampling applies to the total amount of goods imported from January 1 to December 31 of the same year;  Tests for pathogens are carried out in accordance with existing Vietnamese regulations, standards, technical regulations and international regulations.  

The draft circular is scheduled to take effect on June 30, 2022.
