India issues regulation on labelling of multi-source edible vegetable oil

On 17 May 2022, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued regulation No. RCD-040101/1/2021-regulatory -FSSAI, which refers to the labelling of multi-source edible vegetable oils.  Main contents are:

(1) Multi-Source Edible Vegetable Oil refers to a mixture of any two kinds of edible vegetable oil, the weight percentage of any edible vegetable oil shall be no less than 20%;  

(2) Multi-source edible oils shall not be sold under the common or generic name of mixed edible oils and shall be referred to as multi-source edible oils;  

(3) The name and weight percentage of each edible vegetable oil used in the preparation shall be indicated on each package of the mixture of edible oils, and shall be placed below the brand name/trade name on the front of the package;  

(4) All areas shall take inspections on same products among inside the jurisdictions, and verify the implementation of the label provisions. In case of violations of the provisions, it should be immediately reported to FSSAI, and submit verification report to FSSAI before June 1, 2022.
