Japan plans to designate benzoic acid as a new feed additive

On June 3, Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare announced that it plans to designate benzoic acid (a substance added to feed to promote the efficient use of nutrients) as a new feed additive.  Specifically, the Provincial Decree on the Composition Specifications of Feed and Feed Additives has been amended as follows:  
   
· Table 1-1- (1) : The content of benzoic acid in the feed should be less than 0.5%;  
   
· table 1-1- (2) : benzoic acid can only be used in feeds for pigs (piglets) less than 70kg;  
   
· Table 2-8: Benchmark and ingredient specifications for manufacturing method of benzoic acid newly added.  
   
The above content is now open to public comments. The deadline for comments is July 2, 2022.
