Finland updates guidelines on bee farming

On 14 June 2022, Finland's National Food Agency updated guidelines on bee farming.  The main amendments are as follows:

 

(1) Diseases caused by bacteria need not use antibiotics;  

 

(2) Selection and use of antibiotics, short-term use of oxytetracycline, long-term use of sulfate to treat bee diseases;  

 

(3) Withdrawal period provisions.  Oxytetracycline is recommended to be extended for at least 100 days.  Honey made by bees during the withdrawal period should not be used as food.  

 

The revision shall come into effect on the date of promulgation.
