On 23 June 2022, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India issued a notice of amendment to the Food and Food Additives Standards. The amendments are as follows:

1. The definition and physicochemical indexes of nutritionally fortified rice flour and nutritionally fortified rice grain were added.

2. The definition and index of vitamin-mineral premix for preparing nutrient-fortified rice were added.

3. The physical and chemical indexes and nutrient indexes of nutrient-fortified rice grains are added, and the nutrient indexes are shown.

4.Nutrient-fortified rice grains shall not be sold in bulk or directly to consumers. Each packet of fortified rice must be accompanied by a mixture ratio of fortified rice and regular rice of "1:50 or 1:100", "shall not be used as independent product", and "shall not be used as a substitute for rice or rice noodles".

The revision takes effect today.
