On 29 June 2022, the Swiss Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) issued Regulation No. RO2022396, amending the Food and Commodities Regulations, which will take effect on 15 July 2022.  Major amendments include:

(1) If there is a shortage of supply due to unforeseen circumstances caused by external factors (e.g. armed conflict, epidemic disease or natural disaster), the FSVO may establish a temporary exemption requirement for food information labelling, except for information set out in paragraph 1 of article 31;

(2) Deviations from food information requirements must not be related to the protection of consumer health, particularly with regard to ingredients that may cause allergies or other adverse reactions;

(3) Exemptions from labelling requirements for food information should be made in such a way as to ensure that consumers are correctly informed about the actual ingredients of food.
