Chile revises food hygiene regulations

Vitamin D3
On 5 July 2022, the Ministry of Health of Chile issued Decree No. 48 amending the Supreme Decree of the Ministry of Health no. 977 of 1996, The Food Hygiene Regulations.  Main Contents:  

(1) Liquid milk should be fortified with vitamin D3.  After heat treatment, liquid milk must be fortified with vitamin D3.  
 
(2) Requirements of milk powder fortified with vitamin D3.  
 
(3)Flour must be fortified with vitamin D3.  When vitamin D3 of animal origin is used, the label should indicate the source: "Vegetable vitamin D3" or "animal vitamin D3".  

The decree will come into force 24 months after it is published in the official gazette.
