On July 27, 2022, according to the Food Safety News Network, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that the Salmonella outbreak Senftenberg linked to Jif peanut butter is over, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) investigation is also finished.

The outbreak is known to have infected 21 people in 17 states with Salmonella, and four have been hospitalized. There have been no deaths, according to the CDC report.

The FDA reports that the Salmonella outbreak is linked to certain Jif brand peanut butter products manufactured by J.M. Smucker of Lexington, Kentucky.

After the outbreak, J.M. Smucker voluntarily recalled certain JIF-branded peanut butter, as did many other companies.
