France released the 2020 olive oil fraud report

DGCCRF-Direction générale de la concurrence, de la consommation et de la répression des fraudes法国竞争、消费和反欺诈总局
On August 1, 2022, French General Directorate for Competition, Consumption and Fraud Repression(DGCCRF) released the 2020 olive oil fraud report. A reserch found that the main fake products in Europe were oils, and the main content was as follows:

(1) The quality, label and origin of the olive oil were examined in 2020. More than one third of the 206 samples from 177 enterprises examined were abnormal. 4 criminal minutes, 18 injonctions and 40 warnings were issued. The main problem is that the lable details are missing or inadequate. The consumers were misled by origin of the product (olive residue oil or locally produced oil sold as extra virgin olive oil).

(2) 97 samples were took for product quality inspection. Due to sensory characteristics: quality, color, or smell deficiencies , less than 48 % of olive oil were declared substandard because they didn’t comply with the criteria of the legally defined category. The above products have been implemented administratively, and the inedible oils are recalled.
