Russia's Business Representative in China Alexei Rossiya Dakhnovsky told reporters that Russian fish and seafood exports to China had returned to pre-Novel Coronavirus pandemic levels.
 
"We found that seafood exports have recovered according to the data," he said, “In the first half of 2022, exports exceeded the pre-pandemic figure for the same period in 2019 by 7%."
 
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, China began restricting imports of seafood from large compartments of refrigerated ships at ports in late 2020. In order to reach an agreement with China on the opening of ports, Russian representatives of various sectors conducted a lot of negotiations in 2021. In early 2022, the press service of the Russian Federal Fisheries Agency revealed that China had approved the resumption on imports of Russian fish products in Dalian and Qingdao. Dakhnovsky suggest that China needs to install specialized disinfection equipment at ports to solve the problem. "One solution could be the installation of high-tech packaging and product disinfection equipment at Chinese ports," he noted.
 
Fish and seafood exports, which accounted for just over 3% of Russia's total exports to China in 2020, dropped to 1.5% in the first three quarters of 2021, down to only a half the previous figure, according to experts cited by Russian media. about 34% of Russian fish and seafood exports were exported to China in 2021, while it dropped to less than 20% in the first three quarters of this year.
