Tanzania revised 3 draft food amendments and standards

On 31 August 2022, the Tanzania Bureau of Standards revised three amendments and draft standards. They are as follows:

1. Amendment to the Contamination Clause on Roasted Coffee Beans and Roasted Coffee Powder (EAS105:2020), which stipulates that ochratoxin A in roasted coffee beans and roasted coffee powder shall not exceed 10g/kg.

2. Amendment to the Instant Coffee Contaminant Clause (EAS975:2020), stipulating that the amount of ochratoxin A in instant (soluble) coffee shall not exceed 10g/kg.

3. Draft Standard for Raw Coffee Beans (DEAS130:2022), which mainly includes terms and definitions, general requirements, sensory and quality characteristics indicators, packaging (food grade materials should be used to ensure product integrity and safety) and labelling requirements (note: Product name: coffee bean, country of origin, country of origin, state or plantation, year of harvest, type, grain size, net weight), sampling method, etc.

Comments on the three amendments and the draft standards will be solicited until November 7, 2022.
