On 8 September 2022, the Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) formulated and released the test method for fortifiers (iron, folic acid and vitamin B12) in fortified rice (11014/02/2021-QA). Among them, the iron detection method is Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry, with the detection limit of 4mg/kg and the quantification limit of 10mg/kg. The detection method of folic acid was liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), with the detection limit of 5g/kg and the quantification limit of 10g/kg. Vitamin B12 was detected by liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) with a detection limit of 0.25g/kg and a quantification limit of 0.5g/kg.
