EU approved 4 new types of food to be put on the market

According to the Official Journal of the European Union, on January 4, 2023, the European Commission issued Regulation (EU) No. 2023/7, which approved Lacto -N-tetraose to be placed on the market as a novel food and amends the Annex to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470. It is known that Lacto -N-tetraose is produced by a derivative strain of Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3).


According to the Official Journal of the European Union, on January 4, 2023, the European Commission issued Regulation (EU) No. 2023/6, in accordance with the Regulation (EC) No 2015/2283 of the European Parliament and the European Council, approving pea and rice protein fermented by Lentinula edodes (Shiitake mushroom) mycelia to be placed on the market as a novel food and amended Annex to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470.


According to the Official Journal of the European Union, on January 4, 2023, the European Commission issued Regulation (EU) No. 2023/4, in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 2015/2283 of the European Parliament and the European Council,  approving vitamin D2 mushroom powder to be placed on the market as a new type of food, and amended the Annex to the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470 concerning the use of new types of food.

1. Vitamin D2 mushroom powder is authorized to be sold in the EU market. Vitamin D2 mushroom powder should be included in the list of new foods stipulated in the European Union Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470.

2. Within five years from January 24, 2023, only Monterey Mushrooms Inc. is authorized to sell the novel food products mentioned in Article 1 on the EU market, unless the subsequent applicant does not refer to the science protected under Article 3 The novel food product was licensed with the data or with the consent of Monterey Mushrooms Inc.

3. Without the consent of Monterey Mushrooms Inc., within five years from the date of entry into force of this Regulation, the scientific data contained in the application file that meet the conditions stipulated in Article 26(2) of Regulation (EU) 2015/2283 shall not be used for subsequent applicants Interests.


According to the Official Journal of the European Union, on January 4, 2023, the European Commission published Regulation (EU) No 2023/5, approving Acheta domesticus (house cricket) partially defatted powder to be placed on the market as a novel food and amends the Annex to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470.

 

The regulations shall come into effect on the 20th day from the date of promulgation.
