US revised sampling requirements for verification of labeling claims on meat products

On January 30, 2023, the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued Notice No. 07-23, amending the sampling requirements for the verification of meat product label claims. It will come into effect on the date of promulgation and will be valid until February 1, 2024.


Main contents:


1) Requires nutrition labels on all meat and poultry products, whether ground or flavored, under the Federal Meat and Poultry Products Inspection Regulations;


2) In order to verify whether the nutrition label of the enterprise meets the requirements, sampling and analysis are required;


3) The fat and sodium content analysis of raw ground beef, the analysis of soybean components in ready-to-eat products, and the detection plan of antibiotic residues in raw chicken parts have been formulated; 


4) The sampling test of hormone residues in raw ground beef is now added.
