On February 1, 2023, the Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia issued several proposals to formulate and revise a number of food standards. Part of it reads:
(1) To revise the standard of pesticide residue limit in food;
(2) Formulate supplementary food standards for sports people, the main content includes definitions, terms and classifications, general requirements (such as no stimulants, non-food ingredients, and any pharmaceutical ingredients, etc.), nutritional requirements for various supplementary foods (such as the proportion of carbohydrates in energy supplementary foods should not be less than 15%, etc.), product packaging, transportation and storage requirements, labeling requirements (main functions, consumption methods and dosage, consumption taboos and warnings, etc. should be indicated), etc.;
(3) Formulate transportation and storage standards for frozen and refrigerated foods, specifying the requirements for temperature control and recording, cleaning of transportation vehicles, and sanitation management during the transportation and storage of refrigerated and frozen foods;
(4) Formulate storage standards for non-refrigerated and refrigerated foods, specifying the general requirements for the transportation and storage of frozen foods that do not need to be refrigerated at a temperature not exceeding 30 degrees.
The feedback period for the above formulation and revision comments ends on March 31, 2023.
