FDA to approve food labeling requirements

U.S. Federal Register, April 11, 2023, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued Notice 2023-07683, proposing to approve labeling requirements for food products. The main contents include:


(1) Product characteristic label requirements;


(2) ingredient labeling requirements;


(3) The requirement to indicate the name and place of business of the manufacturer, packer or distributor; If the food manufacturer is not the manufacturer of the food, indicate the manufacturer's contact information;


(4) Labeling requirements for nutritional information disclosure;


(5) Requirements related to highlighting required statements and the use of foreign languages;


(6) Specify the requirements for supplier certification of flavors that do not contain artificial flavors;


(7) Labeling requirements for fruit or vegetable juice drinks;


(8) Nutrition labels for dietary supplements;


(9) Databases on the nutritional value of raw fruits, vegetables and fish;


(10) Disclosure requirements for food labels containing folic acid/neural tube defect health claims;


(11) Disclosure of the agreement that forms the basis for the exemption from the labeling requirement;


(12) Nutrition label requirements for new products;


(13) Certain beer labeling requirements governed by the FDA.


The notice will be published in the Federal Register on April 12, 2023, and comments should be received within 60 days.
