On April 20, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) issued Announcement No. 38 of 2023, announcing that the import of Spanish almonds that meet the relevant requirements will be allowed from now on. Almonds exported to China from Spain refer to the almond fruit Prunus dulcis (Mill.) D.A. Webb grown in Spain as raw material, which is made by shelling, drying, selecting and other processing techniques in Spain for human consumption with skin or without skin.

The announcement stated that Spanish almond production enterprises have the responsibility to ensure that their almonds exported to China comply with China's food safety and plant quarantine laws and regulations as well as China's national food safety standards. The production, processing and storage units of almonds exported to China should be recommended by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment, and registered by the GACC.

At the same time, the announcement also lists in detail the relevant requirements for imports, including production requirements, food safety requirements, packaging requirements, etc.
