On June 30, 2023, New Zealand's Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) issued a notice to formulate a national organic standard to regulate the technical rules for the production and processing of organic food, beverages, plant and animal products. The standard has been further revised on the basis of soliciting opinions in the first stage (April 21 to June 16, 2023); the structure of the original draft has been adjusted extensively, terms and definitions have been added, and the content of the terms has been revised. The main contents include:

1. General requirements; including the scope of application, increased terms and definitions, organic principles, prohibited items, regulations on environment, soil, water, fertilizer, pest and weed management, organic transformation, packaging and labeling requirements;

2. Factory requirements;

3. Make regulations on the breeding, harvesting and processing requirements of livestock, aquatic products and bee products;

4. Processing and handling requirements; specify the requirements for processing, storage and handling, auxiliary materials and food additives.

The feedback period for this draft is until July 14, 2023.
