US intends to establish record-keeping requirements for the processing of food and cosmetics containing ingredients of bovine origin

On August 10, 2023, according to the U.S. Federal Register, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued Notice 2023-17273, reporting the development of record-keeping regulations for the processing of food and cosmetics with ingredients of bovine origin. The main contents include:

 

1. The production and processing enterprises of foods (including dietary supplements) and cosmetics (including imported products) containing bovine ingredients shall keep relevant production and processing records;

 

2. The contents of the records should at least include the source of the bovine material (such as brain, spinal cord, nerve, etc.), the inspection record information of the bovine material, and whether the insoluble impurity content in the bovine fat used as the raw material of food or cosmetics is less than 0.15%;

 

3. Relevant records may be kept in written or electronic form for at least 2 years;

 

4.FDA shall supervise and inspect relevant records.

 

The notice will be published in the Federal Register on August 11, 2023, following a 60-day comment period.
