Argentina proposed to amend food codex

On December 13, 2024, Argentina's National Food Safety Commission released six proposals to revise the Argentine Food Codex (CAA). Some of the revisions include:

  

(1) Proposed approval for the use of Siraitia grosvenorii extract as a sweetener in food, with a maximum dosage of 8 g/kg;

  

(2) The standard for fermented alcoholic beverages includes a new product category of sake, and stipulates the physical, chemical and quality requirements of the product, such as the alcohol content of 12%-26%, the methanol content of which shall not be higher than 300mg/100ml, and the product with added flavoring substances shall be named as “flavored sake”;

  

(3) Revision of the revised standard for dehydrated maca powder, specifically, the new health standards for the product shall not be detected Salmonella requirements;

  

(4) Revision of hygiene requirements for meat processing enterprises, including the provision that during the cooling process, split meats should avoid touching each other or touching the walls and floors, and that meat products from animals of different origins are allowed to be placed in the same cooling room but should avoid touching each other;

  

(5) Proposed approval of chia seed concentrate as a new food ingredient and regulation of its specifications, etc.


The comment period for the above proposals is open until January 12, 2025.
