Russia and China hold video negotiations on bilateral import and export of plant products

Russian Federation Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) reported on June 30: Rosselkhoznadzor and the General Administration of Customs of China held a video negotiations on bilateral plant product import and export issues, and representatives of the Russian business delegation to China participated in the negotiations.

Russia has submitted a draft protocol to China in April 2021, and China stated that the protocol is under discussion.

The two parties discussed the possibility of resuming China’s export of pears, stone fruits and citrus fruits to Russia: due to the continuous increase in the detection rate of quarantine pests in relevant crops in China, from August 10, 2019, Rosselkhoznadzor suspended imports of Chinese pears and stone fruits; on January 6, 2020, Russia suspended imports of Chinese citrus fruits. The two sides have held several meetings to discuss this issue. The Russian side stated that they has analyzed the documents submitted by the Chinese side and requested additional materials. In particular, it must contain information confirming the traceability of the fruits exported to Russia.

The two sides will continue to hold meetings next week to discuss relevant important issues.
