Republic of Korea (ROK) notified G/SPS/N/KOR/751 on April 25 to revise the Special Law on the Prevention and Control of imported Food Safety, according to the website of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China on May 6, 2022. The main changes include:
(1) The import health assessment will be extended to the following animal products: edible meat, raw milk, eggs and other foods containing such products as required by the presidential decree. Products covered include: processed animal products (products containing processed meat and products containing processed eggs) made from unprocessed animal products, edible meat (from ostriches) and edible eggs (from geese and turkeys);
(2) Exceptions: Though the amendments to the above law have been made, imports of livestock products from countries that have completed an import health assessment by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety of Korea are allowed to continue to be imported into Korea without further assessment. The revised law is open for comments until June 24, 2022.
