The United States plans to suspend tariffs on imported infant formula until the end of the year

July 16, 2022 (CNN) -- The U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a bipartisan bill that aims to make imported infant formula cheaper for parents amid a continuing shortage of infant formula. HR8351, or "formula act," sponsored by Reps. Earl Blumenauer, from Oregon, and Susan DelBene, from Washington, would suspend tariffs on imported infant formula until the end of the year. Infant formula imported from countries that do not have free trade agreements with the United States is subject to tariffs, which add an average of 27 percent to the cost of formula for consumers, according to Mr. Blumenauer's office.
