On August 17, 2022, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued document 2022-17498, eliminating the dual labeling requirement for certain meat and poultry packages, according to the U.S. Federal Register.

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is revising its labeling regulations to remove regulations that require packages of meat/poultry products containing at least one pound or one pint, but less than four pounds or one gallon, to indicate net weight or net content in two different units of measurement on the product label. The FSIS took the action in response to a petition submitted by a small meat processor. After reviewing regulatory provisions and comments on proposed rules to remove these provisions, FSIS determined that it is not necessary for labels of any meat or poultry products to use more than one unit of measurement to double claim weight or content in order to communicate to consumers the exact weight or quantity of the product.
