On August 8, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of the Republic of Korea issued Notice No. 2024-366, proposing to amend part of the "Rules for the Implementation of Laws related to labeling and Advertising of Food, etc.", the main contents of which are as follows:

1. In order to enhance the provision of nutrition information to consumers, the scope of nutrition labeling requirements has been expanded, in line with major countries such as the European Union, the United States, Canada, Japan, and China.

2. Guarana as raw materials, solid foods containing more than a certain amount of caffeine, etc., should also be marked as high-caffeine foods, strengthen the warning label, so that consumers understand.

3. Frozen food must be labeled with the following warning: "Frozen, do not re-freeze after thawing." However, foods that are eaten immediately, such as ice cubes or ice cream, and frozen foods that do not need to be thawed do not need to be labeled as such.

The above comments are available until September 19, 2024.
