New Zealand proposed amendments to the Animal Products Notice: Regulated Control Scheme – Bivalve Molluscan Shellfish for Human Consumption

On 26 August 2024, the New Zealand Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) released a consultation paper on proposed amendments to the control scheme for bivalve molluscan shellfish for human consumption. The feedback period ends Septembe r 20, 2024. Main contents:

 

(1) Move the requirements for recognised laboratories from Part 15 of the Animal Products Notice: Regulated Control Scheme – Bivalve Molluscan Shellfish for Human Consumption (Part 15) to the Animal Products Notice: Recognised Laboratories.;

 

(2) Monitoring of heavy metals and other chemical pollutants must be carried out before harvesting shellfish.
