On August 26, 2024, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Standards (SLBS) issued a circular proposing to revise the Standard for Frozen Fish Products (including frozen whole fish, fish fillets, fish steaks, surimi and other products) (SLS 1441:1996). The main contents of the revision are:

(1) Add a new provision that the standard applies only to finfish products;

(2) Replace “total arsenic” with “inorganic arsenic” in the requirements for toxic element limits, and revising the maximum limit from 0.3mg/kg to 0.1mg/kg;

(3) Revise testing methods for arsenic, lead and mercury content in products.

The feedback period for this amendment is up to October 23, 2024.
