On August 24, 2024, the South African Department of Agriculture issued the "Regulations on the Sale and import Control Management System of Related Agricultural Products (including related food)", which aims to require South African domestic and imported food producers to prove that their products meet the requirements of the control management system.
According to South Africa, the food control management system requires that "the relevant food may be declared in any way by the name of the food, wording, expression, reference terms, special instructions, instructions, etc., either by itself or in combination with other words, written knowledge, printed content, illustrations, visual content".
The food control management system involves kosher food, Islamic halal food, organic food, and other systems can be added in the future, and registration should be made for joining the relevant control management system. Food under the relevant control management system may require the exporting institution to submit a letter stating the food control management system in the country of origin of the food. The regulation applies to the registration control management system for the sale and import of agricultural products in South Africa, and its requirements mainly include: if the declaration of the production method of imported agricultural products is accompanied by relevant supporting materials, it can declare the adoption of the sale and import control management system of agricultural products; In such a registration control management system, as well as in labels, introductions and advertisements, the declaration of the production method may be used in part, or closely linked to the name of the agricultural product, and the declaration of the production method of the imported agricultural product may be imported into South Africa, and such agricultural products require supporting materials. The expected effective date of the regulation is May 24, 2025.
