Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has just reached an important agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture on adding passion fruit, a fresh fruit from Vietnam, to the United States. In addition, the two sides agreed to diversify quarantine forms to reduce costs and enhance the competitiveness of Vietnamese fruits in the US market.
When exporting fresh fruit to the United States, Vietnam is subject to strict U.S. standards on food safety and phytosanitary. Each planting zone and processing unit should meet different standards to ensure that there are no plant pesticide residues, no bacterial, trichomoniasis, mold and other microbial infections, and the harvesting work cannot affect the quality of the fruit.
During the working meeting between the leaders of Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the US Department of Agriculture held in Washington DC, one of the important issues discussed was the continued opening of the fruit market.
