Argentina proposed to amend the Codex Alimentarius

On September 23, 2024, Argentina proposed to amend the Codex Alimentarius, with a comment period ending October 23, 2024. Main contents:

 

(1) To amend Article 235 of the Codex Alimentarius:

    - General food labels are prohibited from declaring that the product has medicinal properties or therapeutic effects, and nutritional information must indicate the name and content of the ingredient;

    - The product name of the dietary supplement uses the form of nutrition ingredients + dietary supplements, and the secondary packaging of dietary supplements must have a batch, expiration date and brand;

    - The labels of all dietary supplements must indicate how they are consumed, with specific warnings: Keep out of reach of children;

    - According to the label requirements, it is recommended not to exceed the recommended daily intake, etc.

 

(2) Article 912 of the Codex Alimentarius adds the definition of dried apple residue, and the physical characteristics and microbial standards are specified in the following table;

 

(3) Article 1102 of the Codex Alimentarius adds the definition of partially dealcoholized wine, which has an alcohol content of 0.5% to 20% after partial dealcoholization; Dealcoholized or non-alcoholic wine is defined as having an alcohol content of < 0.5%.
