Thailand to revise natural mineral water food standards

On September 24, 2024, the Thai Ministry of Health issued a consultation document to amend the Natural mineral Water Food Law. The main contents of the revision are:


(1) Amend the definition of natural mineral water to exclude water from natural sources;


(2) The type of natural mineral water added;


(3) Clear requirements for mineral water quality, such as not changing important compounds in natural mineral water;


(4) The mineral content of natural mineral water has made provisions, such as lead content shall not exceed 0.01mg/L, mercury content shall not exceed 0.001mg/L, etc.;


(5) Limit requirements for detected pollutants are made: revise the nitrite content not to exceed 0.1mg/L (the original content is 0.02mg/L), bromide not to exceed 10ug/L, etc.;


(6) The microorganisms are required not to detect Escherichia coli per 250ml;
