On September 6, 2024, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority released a report on the analysis of plant toxins in food for 2023. Main contents:
(1) A total of 60 samples were analyzed for plant toxins, including: 20 samples of baby food, millet and sorghum; 20 samples of dried oregano, rooibos tea, herbal tea; 20 poppy seed samples;
(2) Tropane alkaloid was detected in baby food, millet and sorghum samples: Tropane alkaloid were found to exceed the limit value in 3 samples of shelled millet and sorghum powder;
(3) Pyrrolizidine alkaloid was detected in dried oregano, Rooibos tea, herbal tea samples: pyrrolizidine alkaloids were detected in all oregano samples, and two fifths were above the critical value; In one tenth of the herbal teas, excessive levels of pyrrolizidine alkaloids were detected.
