On September 26, 2024, Health Canada issued a document approving the use of genetically modified corn strain MON 95275 for food.
In 2023, Health Canada received an application to allow the marketing of food derived from a new corn variety known as rootworm pest resistant corn MON 95275.
In order to determine if this genetically modified corn variety could be marketed as a food product in Canada, Health Canada scientists conducted a scientific assessment to ensure that it was safe for consumption.
As a result of the assessment, it was determined that the changes made to this new corn variety do not pose a greater risk to human health than the corn varieties currently on the Canadian market. In addition, Health Canada concluded that the new corn variety would have no impact on allergies and that the nutritional value of this corn variety did not differ from other traditional corn varieties available for consumption.
