South Korea set new standards for the use of six food additives in fruit wine, including sulfur dioxide

On October 2, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of the Republic of Korea issued Notice No. 2024-56, amending part of the Food Additives Code, which reads as follows:

 

1. Expand the certification standards for natural sources of preservatives.


2. Modify the standards for the use of some food additives: the new standard for the use of 6 food additives such as sulfur dioxide in fruit wine is set, and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose phthalate can be used for the production of enteric health functional food capsules.


3. Expand the application range of propylene glycol in the food industry.


4. Modify the standard of the use of 16 tar colorants, including food coloring Green No.3, when they are used together.


5. Modify some phrases.


6. Modify the composition specifications and test methods of some food additives.
