Denmark issued guidelines for special foods

On November 1, 2024, the Danish Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Food issued Public Notice 9923, the Special Food Guidelines.

  

The main contents include:


- Definition and categorization of special foods: foods for consumption by people of special age or special health status, specifically categorized into four main groups: foods for special medical purposes, breast milk substitutes, processed foods based on infant formulas and cereals, and foods for consumption by people with weight control;

 

- General product requirements: the requirement that information on name, ingredients, labeling, manufacturer or importer should be submitted to and filed with the Veterinary and Food Administration prior to the entry into the Danish market for sale and circulation of domestically produced or imported special foods;

 

- Product labeling general and special requirements: such as the name and content of characteristic nutrients should be labeled, the recommended daily serving size, consumption methods, warnings, the order of various types of nutrients on the label, nutrition claims and health claims use requirements;

 

- import and export management of special foods, penalties, etc.

  

The announcement is effective from the date of publication.
