On November 14, the National Health Commission (NHRC) held a press conference to introduce food safety and nutrition to help build a healthy China and answer reporters' questions.

Tian Jianxin, deputy director of the Food Department of the National Health Commission, introduced at the meeting that in terms of guaranteeing safety, there are 1,610 existing standards in China, containing more than 20,000 indicators, covering all 340 kinds of food types, covering the whole chain from farm to table, from raw materials to products of various links, from infants to the elderly whole population. China's standards are not only in line with international standards, but also adapted to China's national conditions and the need for risk prevention and control, which can effectively guarantee the safety of everyone's diet.

Tian Jianxin said that food safety standards also play an important role in promoting industrial development. For example, when the standard for milk powder and prepared milk powder was revised in 2023, standard indicators were formulated for “yak milk powder, camel milk powder, horse milk powder” and other specialty milk powders, so that the diversified development of specialty dairy products had a standard basis. The standard for formulas for infants, older infants and young children was revised in 2021, and the relevant enterprises have already finished upgrading their products in accordance with the new national standard. At present, the relevant enterprises have all completed the upgrading and iteration of their products in accordance with the new national standards, and the sales of the relevant products have amounted to more than 130 billion yuan.
