EU proposed to authorize esterified propoxylated glycerol as a novel food product

On November 15, 2024, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published Public Consultation No. PC-1204 on the proposed authorization of esterified propoxylated glycerol (EPG) as a novel food, with a public consultation deadline of December 6, 2024. The main points are as follows:

  

(1) Esterified propoxylated glycerin (EPG) is proposed to be used as a fat substitute in confectionery coatings, i.e., frozen dairy desserts and confectionery products;

  

(2) Proposed uses and maximum use levels: frozen dairy desserts: 34.5g/100g; chocolate candy coatings: 30g/100g; confectionery coatings: 34.5g/100g.
