On 25 November 2024, according to Japanese media sources, Japan's Marumiya Food Industry Co. issued a statement saying it is voluntarily recalling a rice mix due to suspected cockroaches in the product.

The product is understood to be number U4230N54 and has a shelf life until 21 August 2025 and 3 September 2025, according to the statement.

The company said that this month a consumer pointed out that there was a foreign substance inside the bag of the product, and when the product was inspected it was found to be mixed with some insects suspected to be cockroaches. There have been no reports of health hazards so far, the company said.
