On November 29, 2024, the Food and Drug Authority of Thailand issued new standards and certification requirements for the conformity of the imported food production system, which will take effect from the date of publication.
The Thai side requires food importers to provide documents or certificates of conformity of the food production system that are equivalent to or not lower than the prescribed standards to ensure that the imported food meets the food production standards prescribed by law and proves that the imported food is produced under the system that meets the prescribed standards. The old version of the "Standard documents and Certification Requirements for imported Food Production System" announcement issued on April 19, 2021 is hereby repealed.
The new edition of the Standards and Certification Requirements stipulates that:
The production system of imported food should be equivalent to or not lower than the relevant domestic food production system standards in Thailand. The issuing authority of relevant certification documents or certificates shall be the competent government authority of the producing country, other institutions recognized by the competent government authority of the producing country, the member units of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the certification units recognized by them.
The relevant supporting documents or certificates must be original; if the original cannot be provided, copies of the supporting documents or certificates can also be provided, provided that they are certified by the issuing authority, the embassy of the producing country in Thailand and the government authorities; Relevant certification documents or certificates should at least include the name of the food production system standard, the name and address of the food production enterprise or facility, the scope of certification, the date of certification, the expiration date, the status of certification, the issuing authority, the accreditation unit, the owner of the standard and other information.
The relevant supporting document or certificate shall specify the expiration date of the document or certificate, unless it can be demonstrated that the document or certificate complies with the requirements of the relevant standard.
