Mongolia proposed regulation on quality and safety management of imported and exported alcoholic beverages

On December 10, 2024, the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry (MOFA) of Mongolia issued a proposal to develop regulations on the quality and safety management of imported and exported alcoholic beverages, with a call for comments until January 10, 2025 regulations. The main contents of the draft regulation include.

  

(1) importers of alcoholic beverage products shall apply for a special license from MOFA before importation;

  

(2) imported alcoholic beverages shall be accompanied by a certificate of origin issued by the competent authority of the exporting country, documents certifying that the product complies with the technical regulations of Mongolia, and other materials;

  

(3) Packaging and transportation requirements for imported alcoholic beverages;

  

(4) Labeling of imported alcoholic beverages shall be mandatorily marked with the following information: name and address of the manufacturer, name and type of the product, list of ingredients and alcohol content of the product, net content in liters, date of production, health warning, place of origin of the product, and conditions of storage, etc., and the above information shall be marked in English, Russian or Mongolian;

  

(5) Mongolian official authorities supervise imported alcoholic beverages and conduct on-site inspection and laboratory testing of the same type of products at least once a year;

  

(6) Producers of exported alcoholic beverages shall register with MOFA and obtain a license before they can carry out production and export business;

  

(7) Provisions on the disposal of substandard imported and exported alcoholic products, etc.
