Kyrgyzstan to suspend sugar imports

On December 26, 2024, the website of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry reported that in order to support local producers and create conditions for further improvement of sugar beet production and quality next year. On the recommendation of the Committee on Food Security and Nutrition of the Kyrgyz Republic, it is proposed to temporarily ban the import of white sugar into the territory of Kyrgyzstan for a period of six months.

 

In 2024, the total sugar beet harvest in Kyrgyzstan amounted to 870,200 tons, which is 249,200 tons more than in the same period last year.
