Chile has exported more than 1.2 billion dollars in fruit this season, and China is a major buyer of cherries

The latest report released by the Chilean Office of Agricultural Research and Policy (Odepa) shows that in the first three months of the 2024/25 season (September to November 2024), Chilean fruit exports amounted to 1.281 billion US dollars (FOB, the same below), the highest record in 20 years, an increase of 2.2%. In addition, China is an important export market for fresh avocados and cherries.

 

Chile website "Simfruit" reported on the 30th, during this period, Chile's fresh fruit exports accounted for 48.7%, 623 million US dollars, an increase of 7.7%, export volume increased by 25%; Dried fruit exports accounted for 18.3% to 234 million US dollars, an increase of 15.7%, while exports fell 14.1%.

 

In addition, dried fruit exports accounted for 10.9%, $139 million; Frozen fruit accounted for 7.9%, canned 6.1%, fruit juice accounted for 5.4%, and the rest was fruit oil.

 

From the export point of view, during the analysis period, Chile's largest export of fresh fruit is avocados, exports amounted to 212 million US dollars, exports of 77,600 tons, respectively, an increase of 7% and 15%, the main export market is Europe, in particular, exports to the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom accounted for 54% of avocado exports. Among the top 10 export markets, exports to the UK, China and Italy rose 15.7 per cent, 8.5 per cent and 5.3 per cent, respectively. In addition, avocados exported to Italy had the highest average price at $3,489 per ton.

 

Apple came in second with $106 million in exports and 99,500 tons. The main export markets are South American countries such as Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, among which the export price of apples shipped to Venezuela is the highest, at $1,224 per ton.

 

The third largest export volume was citrus, at $102 million; Exports were 99,900 tons, down 37 percent and 21 percent, respectively. The main destination is the United States, exports (91%) and exports (94%) accounted for more than 90%; But its export price was $986 a tonne, down 23 per cent from a year earlier.

 

Cherries ranked fourth, with exports of $73 million and exports of 11,400 tons, up 27.5% and 134% respectively, indicating that the volume of exports increased at the same time, the unit price decreased. China is the largest market, accounting for more than 70% of exports (76.5%) and exports (77.1%).
